bbq under the hood

My car was rolling smoke today. (more work ahead!!!) It was all coming from front manifold right under plugs. Is it time for valve cover gaskets?

OK, here's a dumb question for ya......sorry. Did you recently change your oil? Could you have spilled some? Are you using a crankcase breather in place of the oil filler cap (also referred to as the 710 cap ) Sometimes they leak.

I'm not making fun of you, I promise. Just being goofy.

That's right, he only picks on guys from Florida.
Smoking both sides? Right and left, or front and back?

Re: bbq under the hood

I'm sure its not oil from a change. It's been a while on that. I didnt look at the back, but I'm definitely getting it from the front. I am also using the oil cap that came on the car. If it ever warms up enough today, I will get out there and check the back.

I would go with the gasket replacement, BUT, you said it'd UNDER THE PLUGS. If it was gasket, it should start at top edge of the head. If it was a high pressure (I don't think so) leak, it would still show it all the way down.
Just my thought.

You know if the motor is cold, you can clean it and get a better idea.
Just a thought.

I cant see anything nasty on the back, although its nearly impossible to see back there anyway. Here is what the front looks like.

Re: bbq under the hood

Taking the risk of sounding like a tool. What do you mean by "blow by on filler tube"?

I think you mean "fool". There are no fools on this site.
Blow by is a term for a small leak that blows oil other places. With that upside "U" shape. It looks like part of it is coming from under the filler tube. But it also looks like the gaskets need to be changed. Happens to most GP's with high miles. Had to change them on my 1997 GT, 1998 GTP, and will do them on the GTP soon. Even if it's not shown now, but will.

Re: bbq under the hood

Thanks a lot for your help, agiain. I am going to give it a good cleaning and drive it some more. maybe I will have some better pictures to post in a few days.

One other question. I am big on preventitive maintenence. Is there anything else that should proabbly be done while I'm at it (changing the valve cover gaskets) I know a great deal of the time it's better to go ahead and "do it all" while the thing is apart.
