1989 bmw 735il

hello good people of this forum, having a problems with low beam headlight turning on and off while driving, they come back on after about a min or two, high beams no problem at all, fog light will shut off sometimes also, most of the time fog lights will work after low beams have shut themselves off. on to number 2. I have no led readout on the dash at all, car starts up fine, but no warning lights or gas and temp gauge working. only Speedo and rpm's. on to number 3. replaced the battery with a new one, because was told by BMW dealer my battery was not holding a charge and that's why my obc was switching from English to German back and forth, so now my obc has defaulted to pppp.
and still have all the above problems still. any ideals. been told that this may all be a grounding problem causing all of this, been told to disconnect and reconnect the obc. am I missing anything here except a gun to shot this thing with thanks for any help and ideals good people.

1) Just posted this to someone else as well: The LKM is notorious for bad solder joints and it makes crazy things happen to the lights. Do a search of the E32 section at www.roadfly.org and you'll see what to look for.

2&3) About a month or so ago someone posted in Spanish about a similar problem with the guages. He found a wire shorted to the chassis behind the radio/OBC area.

Re: 1989 bmw 735il

thanks for the very helpfull reply, pulled the radio out and did find two speakers wire bare and touching metal, fix that and pulled the obc out and having it sent to be checked out and replaced since it has defaulted to pppp. this thing runs better with the obc out of the car than in, lights stay on now at nite so maybe the problem is fixed. tried to do a reset of the obc and no luck, hoping thats a sign she gone for good. once again many thanks to ya, libertylover and to all who took time to read my post to see if you could pass on info.

the obc is he tiny screen with the mpg and range and what not right?? does that actually control anything with the running quality of the vehicle?? could that be causing my problem in the "sputtering and stuttering" thread??

Re: 1989 bmw 735il

Have almost the same issue on a 1988 735iL the headlights just cuts out but the fog lights stays on. SO I had to enable the high beams that really is not a good thing. But when click to low beam the lights sometimes comes back on. Mostly happens on a damp or wet day. So in my case something could be grounding it.
They say that the relay switch does not last forever but they are expensive to replace. I wonder if the wiring is worn out. Don't know it has a mind of its own.
So I hope that when my lights shuts of and the fog lights stays on hope that that is not illegal a reason to be pulled over. I'll research some more on this.
