2000 antifreeze smell
My 2000 GC w/ 6 cylinder is kept in the garage. After driving around and parking the GC, I sometimes get a wiff of antifreeze. I've checked around for coolant leaks but have not found any. 6 weeks ago, the antifreeze low level light came on. I refilled the reservoir and have not had the light come back on. (note: i put at least 300 miles per week on the vehicle) I've checked the oil dipstick and oil refill cap for signs of antifreeze (ie milky color, odor, etc.) and have found nothing. Transmission fluid looks great. Gas mileage and power appear to be unaffected. Heater works well and doesn't appear to be leaching antifreeze into the passenger compartment. Outside of the occassional antifreeze smell, I would think anything was wrong. I would like to address the issue in a proactive way before significant damage occurs if possible. Does anyone have any thoughts???
thanks

Re: 2000 antifreeze smell
Check around under the water pump pully, the intake manifold, the cylinder head gasket and of course the radiator.
There is an ultraviolet leak detection system you can use or a repair shop can do for you, that will identify the source of antifreeze or oil leaks. One of the kits is described at this website. http://www.diynet.com/diy/en_mainten...271227,00.html JD |

Slim possibility your screen wash is too rich?? I've done this before and it smells similar if you catch the right waft of air.. my coolany level runs low occasionally through the LPG system that I had installed, I have to top up about a litre a month.
