2000 gallant brake & timing questions

Hello, I just pickup my 2000 gallant es a couple days ago. Its silver, beautiful and drives like a dream. I love it, most of the time. However today (only a few days after driving it home) the brakes, or rotors or something in that area started screeching like fingernails on a chalkboard. Not when I applied the brakes like you might think, but when I wasn’t. Weird huh? So it only happens for a piece of the drive, maybe 10 min at a time and the noise stops when I put any pressure on the brakes. I’ve done the research and seen everyone’s problems with the brakes on these cars (though I hoped to get a perfect gallant w/ perfect brakes) so I assume someone out there has had this problem before me. What needs to be fixed? What replacement parts/ services should be done to circumvent any future brake problems, which would other wise would be in my future? As a new father I’m low on funds and must ask if I could fix the problem, what ever I might be (with minimal knowledge of cars, brake systems, time?) Lastly, at 63,214 mi I’m looking at a timing belt change in the next bit of time, what can I expect for prices on the replacement? Are there replacement belts I should look at which might be better/ last longer? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanx. tybob
