Fuel Injector cleaner good?
Hello, ive posted a few times on this board and find it very helpful. I just bought a 96 jgcl 4wd 2 weeks ago and I love it! Ive never really been into cars but i want to make this my project to get to learn more about them.
My question is: Do those fuel injector cleaners really work? should I use them often? what brands are good? Are carb cleaners good? I basically want to know what fluids I should purchase for my car and what brands! I want to keep my car running nice and smooth. Any help is appreciated, thanks! |

Re: Fuel Injector cleaner good?
I've used the "injector cleaner in the can" type products in the past but it has been a while since the last dose. They will help in some instances but I generally stay away from the snakeoil additives unless I have a specific problem to solve. Make sure that you don't overdose the system as too fast a cleanup can cause just as many problems as leaving it as it was.
Clean fresh fuel shouldn't be a problem in most places unless the vehicle is put into storage or has been in storage for awhile. The spray carb cleaners work well to cleanup the deposits on throttle bodies and MAF sensors in the intake system. They are more of a solvent than an additive like the injector cleaners. The best thing you can do for you pride and joy is use a quality engine oil and filter and change it regularly, service the transmission yearly with a fluid and filter change and band adjustment. Service the transfercase and front and rear axles yearly as well and use synthetic oils in these components. Also grease the steering linkage pivot points too. O ya - study the owners manual, get a service manual for your vehicle and check back here with any questions you come up with. (some of this is just my opinion and preference) JD |

Re: Fuel Injector cleaner good?
You shouldn't use a spray on carb cleaner in the Jeep, but go to the auto parts store and look for some throttle body cleaner and clean that thing out. It really does make a difference.
