INQUIRY: Daytime Running Lights

Does anyone know how to SAFELY and TEMPORARILY turn OFF the Daytime Running Lights for a 2001 Impala? I'm looking for a sure-fire procedure and a quick-fix if I ever need to turn it back on. Thanks!

Could you be more specific? What are "bright lights" (9005)? Thanks.

Re: Re: INQUIRY: Daytime Running Lights

you daytime running lights are just you "bright lights" or high beams at a low power rating. when your car senses its dark enough for you normal driving lights to be on it turns those on. you have three lights per headlight. your corner bulb ( the outside orange light. then your normal driving lamps, the middle bulb. then your daytime/high beam lights whcih are the inside or closest to the grille. now you can either take out the bulb themselves. or what my friend said he did was tried to take out a fuse underneath the hood thats labeled for the daytime running lights, but he didnt like the fact that it also took away the high beams. but I think it would be easier to find that fuse then to take out both bulbs. why do you ask because that is also a different thing that you can buy and turn then on and off from the flip of a switch. but then you have to find a place that you want to mount a switch and run all the wires and thats a pain if you just want the lights off once or not very often.

Re: INQUIRY: Daytime Running Lights

The wire harness in engine compartment, the bottom most one, attached to the front pass. tire wheel well. I know there is a green/black stripe, wire. Care there are two green/black wires, pick the one closest to the motor, it's don't quote me, A2. If this is too confusing, let me know i will try to be more detailed......

I'm not sure if you cut this if it will throw a service engine code. If you pull the relay for the daytime running lights, you will get a service engine code. I install wig wags on police cars and thats how we install them...let me know if this helps

hey bremis519 I was wondering, since you install wig wag on police vehicles, where so you run wires into the car to wire up to a switch to turn those on. I need to run things from the engine to the inside of my car and when I did a qucik look I didnt see a good place to get wires into the car thru the firewall.

Re: INQUIRY: Daytime Running Lights

There is a spot on the passenger side floor area, there is a rubber plug there, all you have to do it cut a hole, run your wires, and silicone to protect the wires, and keep the water out....DO NOT cut any holes through the firewall, there are wire harnesses and such running through there. I also install full size lightbars, radio equipment and accessories such as hide away strobes on them too.....any questions let me know

I nkow this post is pretty old. but I do have a question for you if you can still answer it. im putting it headlight and taillight flashers on my car, and ive installed some before, but never on cars with the daytime running lights. and in the directions it does tell where to find that wire, and I do know where the green/black drl relay wire is. I was just wondering if you knew of a good place to tap into that wire where its easy. I just dont want to try to cut it too close to anything then run out of room to put things back together or have wires hanging out over the engine compartment. I would like to find a place thats close to the body so I can secure the wires down and run them along the side of the car, and I figured you would be the one person to ask before I tear half the wiring apart in the engine just to find a good place to cut that wire. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: INQUIRY: Daytime Running Lights

I'm not sure if this works on this particular vehicle but I have heard on some vehicles that if you depress your parking brake lever 1 notch it will turn off the DRLs as well. Any body ever try this?
