Unhappy A/T problem

I have a 96 GC Limited 5.2 with 170K now. The transmission does fine first thing in the morning but it won't shift from 2nd into 3rd after it's warmed up. The more I drive it, the worse it get (if I let off the gas it will go into 3rd), and finally no 3rd gear after driving for a while. It's worse when it's warm outside. Any ideas beside a rebuilt? I have checked and changed the fluid but still no luck. I seem to have the opposite of what everyone is experiencing. Plus I seem to have the bearing (wawawawawa noise too at speed). Thanks everyone.

I think the only thing to do is to have the 2nd gear looked at, and have the 3rd gear replaced. and about it not working in warm weather, I live in minnesota (you in illinois, not that thats not cold enough). why not just move to an even colder climate? im kidding of course, but i dont know what to say about that.

Re: A/T problem

When the transmission won't shift into 3rd, does it just hang in and keep driving in second or does it go into "neutral" untill you let off the gas??

JD, it stays in 2nd and won't shift into 3rd at all after a while no matter what I do. It could take up to an hour in the winter, but no more than 15 minutes in the summer. It's wacky cus it shift fine (very smooth in fact)first thing in the morning though a bit early into 3rd.
Move to a colder climate?? Very funny Porscheguy..

Re: A/T problem

Mine tends to hang in second when it is cold and the shift improves as it warms up.

Just an idea to try-- adjust the kickdown cable that connects at the throttle body.

There is a specific adjustment proceedure for it but I don't have it handy right now.

JD, you seems to have the problem like everyone else. The transmission won't shift from 2nd to 3rd when cold. Check out the cold transmission thread. The conclusion there was most likely worn front clutch seal.

My problem seems to be the opposite of what everyon else is having. Which is 2nd to 3rd shift when hot. I have checked the kick down cable and it seems fine along with the adjustment under the transmission pan with no luck. Plus the kick down cable should only affect the trans down shifting right? Thanks.

Re: A/T problem

The Kickdown cable difinitely does affect the up shift. I have adjusted it many different ways and have seen the difference it makes.

I'm still thinkin bout your situation tho.
