Early (66) Chevelle Cowl Air Cleaner?

I own a 66 Big Block Chevelle and heard that Chevy offered a factory cowl air cleaner that would attach to a hole in the firewall and draw fresh air through the cowl vent. A friend of mine told me about a guy that was selling one of these, but I'm a little skeptical since I've never seen any documentation on them.
Does anybody know if they really exist? And if so, what would be a fair price to pay for it if it is in nice condition?
Any information you could supply me with would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
JT

Re: Early (66) Chevelle Cowl Air Cleaner?

I saw what your talking about on the Speed Channel a couple of weeks ago. So it does exsist. It was only put in a limited number of Chevelles as I recall. I have a 66 SS Clone myself and I didnt pay that much attention because I didnt like the looks of it. Keith

Thanks for the info. I'm actually less concerned about the look and more interested in the rarity of the option. Any idea how many cars came with this option? Do you think it could have been purchased for any vehicle or did you need a certain option of car like an SS to be able to add it?

I don't usually use the internet for Chevelle data, so this is the first I've heard of them. I'll definitely give them a shot.
Thanks

The internet will provide you with tons of info on Chevelles. Type in Chevelle on Google and your computer will melt down. Theres too many sites to name but Ive been getting parts from opgi.com. www.chevelle.ca is a good one and they have a forum thats just Chevelle talk or click on the links and it will give you list of good sites. You got me curious. Now I want to know what car that was on. Good luck.

If you want, I'll take a digital picture of this thing over the weekend and post it so you could see what it is I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Joe

Thumbs up

I found the cowl induction that you were talking about. Its called a "Yunick NASCAR Chevelle cold-air plenum cowl-induction air cleaner and induction box." according to an article in the annual 2005 "Chevelle, Chevy's Mid-Size Muscle". A magazine put out by the editors of "Super Chevy" The car is a 66 COPO Chevelle and came from the Dana Chevrolet Dealership. vin is 13817. Maybe you can get a copy of the mag. Hope this helps.
