Bandpass or Enclosed??? That is the question.

With all the rumors going around about why enclosed is so much better than bandpass, WHAT IS THE REAL REASON and what would you choose.

Re: Bandpass or Enclosed??? That is the question.

both can be made to sound good, but in order to get a bandpass box to sound good you have to do a LOT of calculations and you can't screw up. In order to get a sealed box to sound good you just build a box of the right size and stick the sub in. If you're buying one prebuilt then definitely get sealed, prefab bandpass boxes are built to get loud and they sound like ass.

All boxes are enclosed. There's ported, sealed, bandbass and a few others. Bandpass is supposedly a lot harder than sealed and ported to perfect to gain the sound you want from it. Sealed will get you SQ over SPL and SQL, ported can get you straight SPL or SQL. I'm sure the other more knowledgable on this forum can help you out in further detail. Expect a response from NG, bumpin, or sr20.

Yup!

Pre-fabricated bandpass boxes are the worst. They are ONE note wonders, with a VERY narrow frequency range! Therefore, almost every frequency sounds the same...shitty SQ. Bandpass boxes CAN be amazingly good, they need to be custom designed tho, by a VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE person specifically for your application and your woofers!

So, sealed has "significantly" less output than a PROPERLY designed bandpass. But, the SQ is a logt greater than a bandpass...like night and day comparted to a pre-fab bandpass. peace

Re: Bandpass or Enclosed??? That is the question.

If you were wondering the reason those prefab bandpasses sound so bad is because they're not made with consideration of the t/s parameters of the sub in there. You should go ported. It will get almost as loud as a bandpass and depending on the sub sound almost as good/ the same/ better then sealed.

*Custom designed ported* that is!

Pre-fab ported will be nearly as bad as bandpass...
