Look on ebay... you can find a cheap intake there... then maybe later on u can buy a nice filter to replace the one that comes with it

All of this is assuming you have a first Gen

If you want a cheap intake and don't really mind how its looks goto a junk yard and buy an intake hose from a 3.0 caravan, then goto home depot and but some PVC piping and then a filter, bolt it up and then you will have a pretty decent and cheap CAI. I spend a total of 50 bucks on mine and 35 of it was filter. The pipe from the caravan will look kinda like a C but it will have 2 90 degree bends in it.

You could buy a little resitor with like 3 ohm output and put that in your IAT and it will think it is getting cold air in the intake all the time. Thought of that one and did it and seems to have pretty good pick up now. On the highway i can deffently feel it.
This is retarded, putting in a resistor to make it think it gets colder air will only make you car run rich, Neons from the factory run a little rich so don't so it. Gaining horsepower is bullshit through this, it does't work no matter what anyone says, the idea of adding more fuel sounds good, but only works correctly when you add enough air along with it so it combusts properly.

Another cheap upgade would be, if you have a SOHC car, get a DOHC muffler, you can pick one up from a junk yard for probabaly under 20 bucks and its good for a few horses.

Another thing to do is, an underdrive pulley, you can pick one of those up for 70-80 bucks off E-bay and they all do the same thing so you don't really have to worry about getting a shitty one, I used to see OBX ones all the time on E-bay and there a pretty decent company, the only think is you'll probably have to rent a special puller from autozone/national auto or whatever you have out there to get your stock one off. But thats good for a couple horses and some torque as well.

Another cheap way to get a bit more power, if you have an manual you can take the trottle body off of an automatic, the manuals are 49mm the auto are 52mm, if you wannt go bigger than that and have some mechanical know how, you can get a 56mm off of a jeep, but you have to change out the "butterfly" to make it work and that requite a little bit of a dremel type action, and a little drilling to the holes to make it fit perfect.

Last but now least, if you have a SOHC car and its a 96 or newer, goto a junk yard and try to find a 1995 car, thier cams are slightly more agressive and were actually later marketed as the Mopar Performance Cam and they work extremely well with a stock computer. So if you find a 95 with an SOHC motor and a cam snatch the cam for yourself and thats worth maybe 7-10 whp and about the same torque if I remember right... theres a trick for the DOHC as well, I think its using intake cams for both intake and exaust.... but I could be wrong, look at the stock cam specs for the car, I'm sure someone has them and the one cam shoudl have slightly more duration... use that cam for both and it should be worth a few horse power.

After that the mods will start to cost you over 100 dollars, because the next thing after that would be a cat back, then a header, then a computer, then a real cam, then some head work.... and its just gets progressively more expensive.

EEEEEEBAY... look on ebay.. it will be sufficient.. but for the battery? most people moving them to the trunk is for motor swaps for more room.. it doenst concern a CAI to my knowledge..

go to the lightest grade synthetic oil you dare

find the skinniest tires and put them on narrow alloy wheels (cheap at junkyard/swap meet

remove jack, spare, tools, extra seats, radio, heater/air conditioner (and drive belt if separate)

pump tires to 40-45 lbs

advance timing if computer lets you, test on long steady hill for knock under load

Thanks for the info DanF this is what i did over the weekend (before i read your post) I went and bought a high intake filter and some 6 gauge wire yanked the battery and put it in the trunk. Then i took my stock tube going from the intake mainfold to the filter and cut it to size, bought an adapter from home deopt and slapped a filter on the end of it and angled it down when the battery used to be. Seems to have made a bit of a difference total cost = ($30). The cai seems to have helped from 30mph-60mph but what can i do to get a good jump from the line (i.e. 0-30). Im thinking about going for the muffler next. BTW i have a 95 SOHC.
