Unhappy Trunk leak

Hello there, my trunk leaks apparently. my camry has that piece at the trunk with the camry logo and it looks like it gets wet, it looks humid. i dont know if this is a problem for these model cars but my trunk is soaked and when i opened the trunk it was dripping from the back of that piece i mentioned. I think some of it is the rubber around it, so my question is what can i do to stop this leaking. can i replace that rubber and what about the actual trunk part, what can i do about that? im hoping someone has had this happen and can help me.
Thanks again
i have a pic of the trunk if anyone wants to see it to know exactly what i mean

Re: Trunk leak

Mine used to leak like a waterfall and I could easily get 2-3 inches of water in my trunk within a few hours... which eventually cause mold and mildew.

Use some caulking to seal around the area you think is leaking.

Drill small holes to drain the water out the bottom of the trunk.

I don't recomend fixing it the way I did. My leak was caused because my chasis was out of alignment (the car had been wrecked before I got it) so I wrecked it again and the body shop straightened out the chasis.

It would help if you indicate what year of camry you have...

I have 1997 Camry, and was having problem leaking trunk too. It turn out the Rear Venting Assembly was broken. It is the one behind the panel on the left rear of the car. You may want to check there. It only cost about $40 to replace the assembly.

hot mama,

my moms camry had the same problem like yours, trunk flooding. i unplug the rubber plugs in the rear side fenders and the rubber plugs in the spare tire compartment. the trunk flooding disappeared after that.

Unplug the rubber plugs in the spare tire compartment isn't really the solution. After all, the water still enter the trunk area, except you are draining it as it enter. The item in your trunk still get wet....

As for inspecting the venting assumbly, it should be simple. You should follow the same instruction in your user's manual for replacing the left rear brake light. Once the plastic panel is removed, you should see the venting assembly right under the brake light.

The vent is mounted on the body with two plastic tab on each side. The plastic tab tend to break off and cause of the vent assembly to seperate from the body and cause the water leak into the trunk area.

My 97 Camry used to have about 2 inch of water in the trunk after a heavy rain!!!

aSM.

Re: Trunk leak

I also have the leaking problem. I checked the tail light and did not find what is the venting assembly. I did find two plastic tabs used to hold two pins on the tail light assembly. One fell off and leave a square hole. And this area inside the trunk looks much dirtier than the other side. Now if only I can find something to seal the hole.
