94 JGC left front grinding

Problem: When I apply the brakes and come to a stop there's are grinding/rubbing sound coming from the front drivers side area. The problem is intermittent - it doesn't happen every time the brakes are applied, but happens enough that it has me concerned. The sound occurs only when braking.

What I've checked: I took apart the left front brake assembly and checked all parts. I saw no indication of grinding or parts rubbing. The pads are still thick and wearing evenly. The rotor appears good as there are no grooves or visual defects (could the rotor be warped though?). The caliper seems to be functioning normally.

So now I'm wondering if it may not be the brakes at all and only a coincidence that the noise is made while I'm braking. During the brake inspection I noticed that the CV boot is torn. If the CV Joint is failing, is it possible that the CV joint could be binding/rubbing when the brakes are applied?

What about the wheel bearings? I'm guessing that if the wheel bearing was going out it would make the noise all the time, but what the heck do I know, I'm a newbie for a reason...........

Any suggestions would be mighty appreciated.

If your CV Boot is torn then usally there is Damage to the CV Joint. Best to replace it. There is agood chance the that is where the noise is comming from. Also check the front hub bearing assembly.
Jack up the side and turn the wheel and listen for distortion in the hub. If you cant locte the noise Jack up all 4 wheels with Jack stands and start the jeep and have someone put in drive and apply the brakes. Listen to where the noise is comming from remember all 4 wheels have to be off the ground.

Re: 94 JGC left front grinding

Thanks for the reply and the direction. Never thought of putting it up on all fours and listening - I'll drag the wife out to give me a hand - it'll be good quality time!
