"03" alero
i have a 2003 alero 2.2 I4. It had about 30,000 miles when i bought it, i have put roughly about 10,000 miles on it. i have noticed that when it is wet outside, the exhaust sounds different. it tends to sound as though it has a growl/rumble to it. i had to drive about 30miles for work the other day and it was snowing. i got to the end of the exit ramp, stopped and then pulled off. when i pulled off, the exhaust sound extremely loud. when it is dry outside all is fine. please any clues as to what this could be would help. i did purchase the extended warranty on this vehicle. hopefully it will cover what ever the prob is. thank you.

Although I've never heard of this before, it's probably not something to be concerned about, especially if it's not accompanied by any performance problems. It's probably got to do with the difference in air density and the way sound travels in the different air. I know from experience with aircraft that when it's raining outside or wet, the noise from the aircraft is much louder than when it's dry. I know that's not much to go on, but it's the best I can tell you without any other performance issues occurring at the same time.

I did think of one thing. You could possibly have an exhaust leak and the sound of it isn't noticed during dry periods, but is accentuated during the wet weather conditions, so that you can then hear it.
