honda civic CX...

hey what's up?... i hope u can help me out. I just recently sold my blue hatch... I'm going to miss her... But i just bought me a new hatch, a CX... I looked up the spec's on it... It say's 70 hp!!! oh my... what am i to do? People say a vtec head would help? But the pistons are a bit to big?? What would vtec head do to the car perfromance wise?? more hp? more torque?? What kind of numbers are we talking about here? I don't want to go fast, I just want to go without gunning it... anybody got suggestions on what I can do? I'm already doing away with the stock intake and new catback... pls let me know... thx,Lo

Re: honda civic CX...

Swap in a full vtec motor. Doing anything to the stock motor is useless. Hell, even just throw in a DX, or LX motor (and transmission) and then put a vtec head on that. The only good thing about the CX is it's light body. Even the VX gets better gas mileage and has 12 more hp.

Re: honda civic CX...

There's not much you can do. Swapping the head would require essentially a complete engine tear down since the pistons are designed for an 8 valve head. Cheapest bet for more power is to pick up a DX motor. Doesn't sound like you need tons of power, but I understand what you mean about not wanting to gun it. I have a CX as my daily driver and anything more than me and full tank, I find my self gunning it everywhere just to maintain speed. LOL!!

Re: honda civic CX...

well, u can just add regular stuff like intake and watnot to boost your throttle response a bit....it wont do much for a cx but u can swap a d15b7 for about....wat? 20 dollars? haha, but seriously though...in as light a car as a hatch...swap anything bigger than the cx engine and ull be set..

Re: honda civic CX...

Yeah I added a short ram to my cx and I could definently feel better throttle response. But I still have to gas the hell out of the thing to get it moving. I don't know if this is how all CXs are, but I have to gas it to around 2200 rpms to even get it to move in first gear, otherwise the thing stalls. I can't tell you how many times I've stalled the thing when I'm sitting at a light. My friend is a mechanic for mitsubishi so he drives tons of different cars all day, including the hondas/acuras he test drives outside of work, and he stalls my car every time he drives it. But for some reason he tells me that my car is faster than his VX

Re: honda civic CX...

another thing that helps u get the car moving easier is cleaning out the intake....get a can of intake cleaner and go to superhonda.com....look for the preformance section then into the maintenance posts.....it will show u how to clean your IACV and it helps big time....then clean out your intake by sparying it where the intake tube is..(taking the tube off first) then i cleaned mine by disconnecting the pvc valve tubing on the intake manifold and sprayed a shit load in there too....then i started the car and revved it alot to get the carbon out....it helps on starting out in first....i can start out in second alot easier too...
