Get The Dex Cool Outa There!!!!!!!

I work for a major auto parts chain, and deliver to several shops throughout my area. One common thread all mechanics agree on is this. If you have a car with dex-cool ( the red stuff) get it out of there as fast as you can.

They say to have it flushed and refilled with the good old fasion green stuff. Along with other miscellanous problems, dex-cool has the propensity to coagulate, or gell up and gum the engine up.

Just some friendly advice. Good luck yall.

Where I live (NY) it is harder to find the regular ethylene glycol based antifreeze. It is quickly being replaced by a "universal mix antifreeze" that can be used with either antifreezes. If this can be mixed with Dex cool, doesn't it have to share some of the properties of the antifreeze it mixes with? That would mean similar problems as Dex-cool would present. I'm a little hesitant to use this new universal antifreeze , and would rather use the old green ethylene glycol formula. One argument for the new universal mix would be that millions of dollars were spent in research and development to bring this product to market , so it should be okay, and work without problems. But I could say the same thing about Dex-cool and look how that turned out.

Consider yourself lucky so far. Most problems with Dex Cool don't appear for 40-50,000 miles. That's when your intake gaskets or head gaskets start failing, and other problems start cropping up. If you get the chance do a little research on this site, and on the internet in general. You will see all of the problems Dex Cool has caused or is presently causing. There is even talk about a class action suit against GM because of this.
