Noise is driving me crazy!!

Whats goin on? I have a 1998 Blazer 2wd with about 64,000 miles on it. Recently, I have been hearing a squeeking noise coming from what appears to be the front drivers side when going over even tiny bumps. The best way to describe this sound is it actually sounds brakes do when they start to wear low. I just had my pitman and idler arms replaced, and took it in for a full allignment about 4,000 miles ago. My brakes do squeek, but I don't know why they still have about 45% life left on them. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks a lot!

Can you duplicate the noise if you bounce the front end? If so, get someone to bounce while you check under. Might be a shock or bushing squeeking.

You raise a good point, I forgot to mention that I can not replicate it by bouncing the front or the rear of the vehicle up, it seems to happen only when the vehicle is in motion.

Does it some times make a poping noise when hitting a bump. If so it possibly be the torshion bar mounts near the crossarm bar my where broke in mine drove me nuts until I figured out what they were.

Nope, never a pop, just a stupid annoying squeek that annoys the crap out of me.

Check your brake pads and rotors.... Squeal could be coming from the squealers warning of brake wear.... Also check your hubs...

Have you greased the front end lately? Sounds like you have a dry balljoint needing grease.

So I was just under my truck and found the zerks, and there is like a tiny little BB like object in the center of them, do I just stick the grease gun up in them and squirt?

Also, I noticed what appeared to be oil on the power steering pump as well as the bottom most pump or whatever it is, its the pulley closest to the ground. I am not sure what the deal is because no oil is ever on the ground, and I don't think the oil was fresh. Where could this oil possibly be leaking from? Thanks a lot again guys!

Please concentrate on one thing at a time.





See that nipple sticking out the top there, that is where you put the grease gun on and put grease into. A couple pumps should do.

When in doubt, have someone come over and show you. You can do more damage than good.

Just make sure you clean the nipple before you push the grease gun on it.

Thanks a lot, I did just that but I wasn't quite sure if grease was getting in there, because of that little marble like thing in the center, I thought possibly you had to have an attachment to push the ball in and then grease. Alright its good to know I did one thing right.

Naw. The grease will push the ball bearing forward allowing the grease in.

How did the greasing go?

It went very well, I just crawled under there with my brand new grease gun, cleaned off the zerks with a towel, stuck the tip on there and squeezed away. Im about to go get some burgers so I will see how the squeek is going.

Do you have any clue about that possible oil leak? I think I am just being over cautious but I hate the thought of having a leak. Just to reitterate I dont believe it was fresh oil, and I haven't seen any on the ground.

Back to the squeaking, if the greasing didn't take care of it, try oiling your leaf springs (just soak them with a spray oil or some type of lubricant). I have problems with my leafs squeaking all the time, especially in the summer when it has been dry for a while. Sometimes I will spray them down with Armour All and they are good for a while.

I wouldn't worry about the leak unless it was showing up on the ground.

Could be anything really and could be leftover from when someone topped up the power steering fluid or something and spilled a little.

Check the seal on the top of the steering box. The leak causes nothing more than a sweat, but I found my 2000 started leaking at about 55,000km's.
