Alpine subs/amp?

Ok, I went into a store today and they guy had Alpine Type R subs on sale for 279.99 CDN (200 USD) easch, and the Amp was on sale for 499.99 CDN (400 US) and it comes with a 1 year warranty too.. I heard them in the store too and they pounded nicely.

The deal was, for 1,000 Canadian he wold give me 2 12' subs and the amp, no taxes on top of that and the 1 year warranty.

(It would actually cost if you add it all up. 279.99 + 279.99 + 499.99 + taxes *15%* = 1218.97 CDN) but he'll sell it for 1,000.

Good deal? Bad deal? What does everyone think of Alpine Type R subs and the amps. (500watts rms mono class D amp)

Thanks.

Re: Alpine subs/amp?

Well, from what I've seen on this forum, most people (i.e. bumpinstang) would suggest getting RE or SE XXX subs and different brand (I can't remember what it was... Nine.1 or something) amp. They've also said that while Alpine has some of the best head units out there, they don't have the best amps or subs. A grand for just 12" subs and an amp seems a bit steep to me. Don't take my word though, I'm just regurgitating what I remember people saying...

Type R's are nice but that is way to much money for them, you can find them online for less than $100 each. Alpine Has decent subs and amps but if you have $1000 to spend on substage, you can do MUCH better.

Example? I know I could do better, but with a warranty? Plus, becuase im Canadian I have to pay 15% duties on top of shipping. Anyone request anything?

Re: Alpine subs/amp?

There are TONS of other options!

www.soundsplinter.com
www.incriminatoraudio.com *
www.adireaudio.com
www.reaudio.com *
www.stereointegrity.com
www.ascendantaudio.com
www.edesignaudio.com

Depends on what you want, shop around on those sites. The two with the stars, Call for direct pricing!

My picks in your situation would be:
TWO 12" Soundsplinter rl-p
TWO Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection 12's
TWO Resonant Engineering SE 12's
TWO Ascendant Audio Atlas 12's

Out of those, the best choice is the rl-p's. Second b/c of price would prolly be the LI's. peace

NG

P.S. and if you decide, we can help you match wahtever you want with the correct amp!

I like about nothing but Directed Audio. Look to see if you have a local dealer. www.directed.com

Re: Alpine subs/amp?

I would go with some SE's, RL-i's, or LI's..... as for power with the se's or LI's you'll want 1000-1500 a 1 ohm (rms not peak) and ask NGSM13 about the RL-i's.... I think they like about 300 a piece ported 500ish sealed.
