Here is my dilemma. My dad built a '65 Shelby Cobra big block 427 kit car in 1989. Unfortunately, he passed away two months ago. I would like to drive the car next summer, but don't want to do so uninsured since I will stick out like a sore thumb to any cop...I'm only 21 years old and surely look out of place in the car (plus I am a cop myself and I guess I have to set the example
). Insurance is required here in the state of Colorado. The problem is that every classic/specialty car insurance agency I've found so far will ONLY insure drivers over the age of 25.I will only need insurance for about 3 months next summer before I'll be moving out of town (and the vehicle will stay behind). Can anybody suggest a good company that will insure me...preferably on a temporary basis (i.e. not 6 months)? My dad insured it as a show car (even though he didn't show it) which was cheaper because it only covers you to and from shows and to clean/maintain it, but they obviously can't police that. My objective here is just to HAVE coverage to comply with Colorado state law, not necessarily to have comprehensive coverage as I not only can't afford it, but WILL NOT be wrecking this thing (and will have to take my chances that nobody will crash into me). I have never been involved in an accident of any kind and have no traffic tickets. I have spotless credit as well. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Insuring a '65 Shelby Cobra Replica (21 years old)?
Hagerty Classic car insurance is the Cheapest, Insures any age and has no Milegage limit.
I'm 19 and I insured a '77 Trans Am in PA for $119 a year, would have been $147 in NYC. This is with an agreed upon value of $12,000 http://www.hagerty.com/ Cheers! |

I didn't think haggerty insured anyone under 25 either. Could check with your own insurance company. They might cut you a deal for insuring it for a couple months.
