Re: just had suspension looked at

our cars come stock with struts, but u can replace the struts with shocks i believe (correct me if i'm wrong guys). But definitely go to another shop - that's a crap load of money just to dump into your suspension.

No joke. I paid less than that just for my car.

Re: just had suspension looked at

lol i paid $2000 for mine, but i'm planning on putting money into it overtime (and a lot more than $2000). I've already put about $800-$900 into it (wheels, system, maintenance, etC). I have a new suspension in my plans, probably replacing it all bit by bit, to make it ride nice as if it was just out of the factory. Mmm comfy

On a side note, i was driving someone's ford taurus today. It was a 2002 model, ugly as heck. And the ride SUCKED, it was a very bumpy ride whenever you hit anything, and it was yucky. My 14-15 year old honda civic rides better than that 3 year old ford. I was so happy to get back into my lil civic with stop-on-a-dime handling and comfy ride

Better handling? Probably. But is the ride as smooth? Thats what I'm worried about when I finally start sinking big cash into my car. I want good handling, but more importantly, I want the ride to be as smooth as possible. Can I have both?

Ya, I'd honestly say that your springs are probably fine unless you've modified them in some way. I can get you a whole Tein coilover/strut system brand new for under $700, then all you'd need would be the tie rod ends and alignment - there - saved you a bunch of cash. I think that shop if full of it though.

my ride feels fine to me, nice stiff suspension, i probably have one of the best suspension set-ups in town here because the rest of the lowered cars i see driving around are bouncy as hell

Re: just had suspension looked at

That shop just wants your money. Honestly, you can keep your stock springs unless they were messed with somehow. There is some good advice in this thread that will save you tons of money...

That civic with the 5 stars doesn't look so bad at stock height...

I raised my car up some and it doesn't bottom out anymore and the ride is super smooth. My struts could use replacing but I don't bounce around... stock si struts/arospeed adj. coilovers... but my si does have swaybars (front and rear) as well as upper strut tie bars (front and rear)....
