No oil pressure on cold start

I have this problem and it is driving me nuts. It the winter in Missouri right now so this affects my truck at winter or on really chilly summer nights. I start the truck and everyting is fine except for my oil pressure. It's at zero. So I drive a couple of miles and the truck motor warms up and then all of a sudden my oil pressure is at regular. Now I have to drive my truck about 3 miles at a good pace to get the motor warm. Now this is the part that confuses me. I turn the truck on, no oil pressure, so I drive it one mile. Turn the truck off and let it set for about 15 minutes and when I start it the oil pressure comes up just fine but the whole motor is still cold. Is the gauge just delaying a little but oil pressure is there and my motor is properly lubed??

Re: No oil pressure on cold start

u might want to hook u[p a gauge to check your oil pressure manually. also it is possible that your pick up screen in your oilpan is cloogged. your oil pan is not to hard to remove. and if your pickup is clogged it will cause syptoms like you described....remember to repost your repairs and/or solutions..

Better park your truck until you can confirm with a dial type oil pressure gauge you do have oil pressure.
No oil pressure at start up can do a lot of damage more so if you drive it 1 - 3 miles.
You need a dial type oil pressure gauge with a 1/8" pipe thread.
Remove the oil pressure sender and put the gauge instead and crank your truck and let idle ad watch your oil pressure.
If you have oil pressure reading, then the sender is going bad.
If you don't have oil pressure then it could be one of following,
1. As Mazdatech said, your oil pick up tube screen could be plugged.
2. Your oil pump is worn.
3. Your oil pressure regulator valve is stuck open,
Let us know what you find out.
