99 JGC 4.0 reset pcm

About a week ago, mechanic changed speed sensor after getting a a 0720 code. Mechanic reset error code and I drove car for a few days. Came back and pcm reading is that two systems have not initialized completely (if I got it right EVAP & Catalytic systems check are incomplete). It has been a week since then and this afternoon mechanic check pcm again with same results... There are no error codes, no check engine ligth on..

What it takes to get EVAP & Catalytic systems to check OK on scanner? 50 start cycles?

Mechanic is telling me that car will not pass smog test without having those systems cleared..

Any advice will be much appreciated..

Thanks
