How much life left in these tires?

Just bought a 99 Blazer. It's got Michelin LTX M/S tires on it with about 5 to 7 32nds tread left. Under normal driving, about how many miles does this come out to? How many miles were these tires rated at new? I understand this is a tough call but I'm just looking for ballpark.

Thanks,

Cheers!

Re: How much life left in these tires?

Is this really a difficult question... or is it a stupid question?

Re: How much life left in these tires?

This is a difficult question to answer.

First, mileage depends more on how you drive and the road conditions you drive on than the design of the tire. I've seen the same tire deliver anywhere from 7,000 to 107,000 miles, all depended on the conditions.

Second, this tire was OE on several vehicles and the vehicle manufacturers dictate what performance level they want, which includes wear. Usually vehicle manufacturers sacrifice wear to get improved rolling resistance.

Another issue is that wet and snow traction are greatly affected by tread depth. 5 /32nds is really close to the point where this becomes an issue and you may find the traction more of an issue.

And last, tire age is a critical issue in tire durability. Some folks say that tires older than 6 years shopuld be removed. Some use 10 years, but all agree there is a limit.

Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.
