starting problems in cold weather

I have a 1997 Acura Integra which won't start below approximately 39 degrees. At first we thought it was a battery problem, and found the battery was bad, so it was replaced. But the problems continued. The mechanic replaced the starter and tightened some of the connections. It still would not start below 39 degrees. So the mechanic replace the starter again. Same problem. New, different brand starter was put in. Same problem. The mechanic says 12 volts are at the starter when it won't start. The lights on the dash all come on, but there is no sound, except the radio antenna, when it is below the critical temperature. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Any information on where to look would be helpful.

hmm, this is a good one. ok if the car won't start we have to look at all possibilities. fuel, ignition, or power. from what i'm getting the car won't even crank over. so that tells me that it is an ignition issue. i mean that it can be the ignition itself, main relay, or starter. i have noticed on the forums and from past experience that the main relay is a huge issue with honda's and acura's. when the main elay does not work the car just won't crank over. try to see if your mech will try to see if it could be that. or see if you can give us some more detailed info on what he has done.

I had this same problem in my Civic. Replaced the starter, ignitor chip (costed me $85 freakin bucks), and the distributor. It was none of those, it was my damn relay that was making it not start. Costed me $500 to fix

so all said and done it cost you $500? the relay for me was $60.

Result: We replaced the main relay and that seemed to help for awhile. But the problem started up again at a lower temperature (26 degrees). In the end I had the mechanic pull out the aftermarket alarm system with all wiring. That fixed the problem. Thanks to all who helped!
