K&N is the brand that you should stay with since their filters are said to be the best out there. There is an adapter kit that allows you to plug a filter onto the stock piping right next to the MAF sensor. You can grab that for around $50 on ebay or at importperformance. Once I have some spare cash, I'm going to be picking up one of those...

Re: what cold air intake should i get?

All intakes are the same hp-wise...there is no real reason to spend more money on one over the other. K&N is said to have the best filtration, but realistically I would trust any name brand regarding filtration.
On my Honda I had a $30 intake from ebay, and it worked just as well as my friends $200 CAI...we switched and there was no difference. So go with the best deal you can find...if you are really really concerned then go with the best deal you can get on a name brand, but in all honesty...I think the K&N FIPK is WAY overpriced.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: what cold air intake should i get?

The 9" K&N which is bigger than the FIPK is only like $40. Get that instead of a CAI, regular open element is just as good. You could throw on a heat shield for $15 but I don't think they're very helpfull.

Re: what cold air intake should i get?

i got mine with a 3" air cone air filter and a polished aluminum replacement for the intake hose for only 69$ with shiping on ebay, it works fine and the polished aluminum gets rid of the resonator bottle so the sound of the car changes alot.

i have a spair adapter to make it possible to have a universal 3" cone filter. and will sell it for less than 50$

Yes and the one IPO sells is for a 4.5" filter too. You probably wouldnt get any more than $10 for a 3" adaptor. Plus the one IPO sells for $20, that inscludes shipping too.

Re: what cold air intake should i get?

The mas is only 3 inches right? Then whats the point of getting a larger diamiter if your staying with stock MAS. Is the K&N kit on IPO a 9x3 kit or a 9x4.5? Either way its deecent deal since the 9" goes for like $40 and the adapter goes for $20 on ebay, and everyone knows how shitty the shiping rates are on ebay.

Re: Re: what cold air intake should i get?

The oval part of the MAS actually would have a diameter of 3.75" if it werent smooshed into an oval. If you want the FIPK to stay CARB legal if need be you can buy the one for the Eclipse from IPO for $105 shipped. The only difference is the brackets are bent differently whixh can be easily taken care of.
