Major Electrical Problems
I have a 2001 Dodge Neon SE and am having some major electrical problems. It started after xmas when I let my son in law attempt to put a stereo w/CD in. He apparently didn't know what he was doing and tried to hook it up without the harnessing unit. He claims he didn't cut any wires, only took the factory radio out and had to put it back in when he couldn't figure the wiring out. But immediately afterwards, the odometer started beeping and flashing "FUSE" upon cranking the car, the radio, cigarette lighter, and dome light all stopped working even though the fuses are good. The dash light fuse went out, and when replaced, only lasted 2 weeks before it went out again. That was 6 weeks ago. Recently the tail lights went totally out. I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? maybe the computer is going out? Is this going to cost me a fortune if I take it to the shop? Thanks so much for any advice you can give me.

I'm thinking that when you s-i-l put the stereo back in he might of left a wire exposed or possily pinched two wire together, even one strand of wire sticking out and on a bump could ground it enough to cause you some real headaches...I would pull the stereo again making sure to check all wires are in good shape and no frays or bare wire exposed, when installing make sure the body of the stereo doen't pinch the wire as you push it back into place...good luck

Ok Like the other guy said you deffently want to take the radio back out and check every wire really good. Make sure none are not hooked up and make sure there are no breaks in them. If either of the two occrur then take electic tape to them. Now about the brake lights that happened with mine to. But I have a 95 neon. My problem was the turn signal switch. Might be yours to check it. If its not the radio thing that has a wire loose, broke, or not hooked up then i would make sure the fuses are good witch you say they are check them agian and check the wiring to the fuse box. Hope it helps and I wish you luck.
