performance chip?

I read an old post asking about performance chips. Has anybody on the forum actually try one yet? I want all I can get out of my while spending the least amount of cash.

Re: performance chip?

PCM in this car is not friendly to chip changing. The whole unit needs to be reprogrammed for overall performance. There are a couple of companies that do it, but I don't think anyone on this forum has done it.

Soooo... Does that mean there may be another forum geared for performance or the newer model? Sorry, I'm new to the Aurora and forums. This forum was the best that I have found so far.

Re: Re: Re: performance chip?

The bottom line is that GM pretty much squeezed all they could from this drivetrain in its stock form. Power curves, shift points, all that stuff that chips are supposed to give you have already been done. This is also why the engine needs 91 octane fuel to support the 10:3.1 compression. Thats how they achieved the 250 horsepower output(a lot for a 4 litre in 1992). Certain companies have thrown out prices between $300 and $600 to reprogram and gain only a few horsepower. Most of us here have done the airbox mod(see caddyinfo.com) and a few have Corsa or comparable exhaust systems and a couple have tried the larger throttle body with minimal gain, if any at all. Generally, the airbox(free)and exhaust seem to give about 25 real dyno horsies. Take a look at domesticperformance.com and rsmracing.com for other performance oriented parts. But remember, you could buy ALL that crap and it still won't be a sporty or fast car.

You can buy a control module from Jet Chip, which is supposed to add like 10-15 hp.

Re: performance chip?

According to their site -- they don't make one for Oldsmobile -->

1999 Buick & Oldsmobile Passenger Cars

Sorry no models available for that request

Did you get it directly from them?

Re: performance chip?

The sad fact is that short of head work and superchargers( which noone makes yet) there really isnt much you can do to the Aurora to add any signifigant HP or performance.

Ive read everything there is to read on these cars for 4 years now. And I can honestly tell you you will be wasting money trying to modify this car too much.

K&N filter and a catback exhaust are really the only mods you can do that make sense performance and cost wise.

Unless you want to spend thousands of dollars in engine work there really isnt much you can do. But feel free to spend all the money you want. Dont say I didnt warn you though.

They just made these cars too good from the factory.
