94 Grand Cherokee noise

I had the automatic transmission replaced with factory rebuild 6,000 miles ago. It is a four wheel drive vehicle. At speeds above 30 mph I get a very distinct rotary noise from the rear of the car. I had new tires
installed 2,000 miles ago. The sound is like maybe a u-joint bearing or a carrier bearing. It has a wawawawawawa sound rather than a continuous bearing noise. Any ideas? Thanks

With the fact that the tranny was changed recently I think you are on the right track with the ujoint idea.
Also make sure the lug nuts are torqued properly. It is amazing how sensitive the wheel assembly is to a varience in torque.

Thanks for the reply jeepdwg. I am checking the lug nuts torque today and I'll also check the u-joints.
