trans question
94 grand cherokee has a rough shift going from park to reverse or drive to reverse.. where do i begin

First of all, an increase in Idle speed will make the shift more abrupt.
Second, any play in the drive line from the flywheel to the wheels will give you the "jump" when changing gears. third, fluid frictional qualities change over time and with use. Also, any additives put into the tranny can change the friction of the shift. Hope these give you a place to start.... JD |

the 'rough shift' you're talking about may be coming from the mounts. Other posts in the forum have talked about that, especially in a vehicle with that age, the rubber 'washers' on the transmission mount may have rotted, providing a 'clunk' when there's play in the transmission casing.

too much line pressure can be a cause,this can be a problem in the valve body or it can be caused if the throttle valve cable is improperly adjusted.I would check that first.
