new stereo, no sound
Hi all.
I just replaced the head unit in my 96 JGC Limitied (the Inifiniti) with a cheap aftermarket because it was giving me crap picking up FM. Well, after wiring up the new harness and attaching it, I have no sound. Nothing, not even static. So, to me, that sounds like the AMP isn't powering up. The original wiring was two seperate plugs (Stereo and Speaker sets), then a ground plug and then one plug I am not sure of (went into the side of the stereo, had an odd connection, and the wires were purple and white). Anyway, on one of the two plugs (the one labled "Speaker Connector") it doesn't have anything labeled AMP, and the blue wire I would guess to be the AMP is labled "ANT". Well, this unit doesn't have a powe antenna so I'm really confused. I connected the AMP lead on the stereo to this blue wire and it didn't help. Any suggestions. Many of you have replaced the stereos and mentioned that it was simple/straightforward...so what am I overlooking, and what is that odd connection (purple/white wires - I thought maybe the connection from the old unit to the info center)? |

OK, got it figured out. Apparently in the wiring harness I was using the generic ground plug was too close to the front/left speaker wires. The two were touching and it was grounding out the speaker system. As soon as I unplugged that set of speaker wires the rest came to life, so it was a fluke I found it at all. Anyway, I ran a new ground wire (without the harness) and now the system is up and working fine. The blue wire is the AMP, and I'm guessing the two wires by themselves must have gone to the Computer Info Center.

Re: new stereo, no sound
the purple and white wires are for steering wheel controls.
