How do i align this door?

Question..........i have a 92 S-10 Blazer where the drivers door over time has dropped down just a hair. I've moved the striker bolt to accommodate the ever so little slant and that is working for now but how do i fix it when the hinges are welded to the body. Do i replace the pins or do i go all out and get new hinges welded on. Why would they weld the hinges anyway so you can't adjust them???????????????

Replace the door pins, one at a time.

The hinges are actually glued on with some really tough glue.

Are the pins difficult to replace? I mean do i need a special tool? And ya........if they are not welded on, then your right, that glue does kick some ass!

You need to replace both the pins and bushing.The bushings are brass so be careful when you hammer them back in,use a piece of wood and hit the wood with the hammer and not the bushing.Also you will need a spring compresser for the spring in the hinge.As far as the hinge being welded on?I think it's welded(plug welds),the goo you see is just a seam sealer.

Where's this spring in the hinge you talk of? I only see a hinge with a pin going through the middle. What does the spring look like?

The spring looks like a coil spring and is located behind your top hinge.

Hey thats a kick ass system you got there. What size amps are on those uh 10s maybe or 12s how man watts do they push?

I'm sorry but that was really stupid to say those hinges are glued on, how long do you think those doors would last from everyday slamin. Glue what the hell kind of crazy glue is that, plus its easier for the factory to weld them on plus it last their not cummin off without a tourch or a plasma cutter or a good ole' cut off wheel, or my favorite the saw zaw. So Overboard research that a little more before speakin.

I have a Alpine head unit,2 Alpine 6 1/2s,2 Kicker ST1000(10 inch speakers with horn tweeters,full range boxes)Hifonics 600 watt amp.It's nothing pounding or anything but sounds good.Check out my car's system under "My Little Geo".This is a little off subject though.

That's not so far off subject though.Those hinges aren't glued on,but I can tell you that glue is getting used more and more in the industry.So far where I work,we glue bedsides on and use it to glue the wheel well lips of quarter panels of cars.I have also used it to glue patch panels in for rust repairs.

Yah i know what your saying. My 75 corvette was recently in an accident and a new front clip was installed. Almost the whole front end was held together from the factory by a super strong bonding adhesive and thats what they used to put this new clip on(which is basically the whole front of the car, from the front window,forward of the doors to the front bumper) now 30 years later. The bonding compound is made by Duramix and bonds all kinds of materials. It is some awsome stuff! Now, holding hinges on a door..........i don't know about that. Maybe....................

so.........i went to the dealership and they have the 3 pins for the door,and the ONE bushing. They said that it only comes with one bushing witch is on the top of the lower hinge. Is that right, because when i look at it i swear i see bushings(two on the upper and two on the lower) of both hinges. Maybe i'm not looking at it right. They don't carry any retainers to hold the pins and neither do any auto parts stores here in town. The one spring on the upper hinge is also not available.
Here's my question....if all of this above is correct about the bushings and such, can just replacing the pins and the "one" bushing make a difference if i have to use the stock spring and retainers?
The parts guy at the dealership said he had the same problem with his S10 and he opened the door, jacked it up and tweaked it almost to allign perfectly. Is this guy nuts? That sounds a bit scary!

I don't know what they are on.You need 2 pins and 4 bushings.After that story don't even deal with them.Go to NAPA,they carry the pins and bushings.The pins and bushings come in kits and are labeled for what they fit.1 kit has 1 pin and 2 bushings.The kits you need aren't labeled for the S10(if I remember right).They are labeled for a GM truck.The only difference is that the pin is longer which you can cut so that it is shorter.What I use for retainers are those thin star looking washers that when you press them on they will stick.I think NAPA can get you a spring also,which you will need a tool to put it on.Bending your hinges should be a last ditch,a final adjustment so to speak.Hope this helps.

I don't think there is a napa here but i'll check online and see then. I tried advance auto,o'reilys and autozone but had no luck.
