96 aurora, won't shift to OD, seat problems?? Thanks!
Thanks in advance for any info.
I am a new Aurora owner, and I really like this car. However, mine needs some TLC! While it runs great, it won't shift into OD. Fuses are all good (in in-dash fuse box), fluid level is a little high, but I doubt if this is the problem. The mech did a scan and found a stuck or unoperating EGR, but nothing about the tranny. Could it need a solenoid that I keep reading about (haven't found a case yet where OD was the problem)? Other problems that I can't seem to solve: Driver seat is immobile. The back support options work and the seat warmer, but no movement. The switch in the door panel seems to be working fine (I get currant through various wires out of the switch while working the switchs). I can't find an obvious problem under the seat. This really bothers me--is there a unit under the seat causing this that I can junk-yard? Passenger seat warmer is not functioning. Power mirrors inoperable. In-cab fuel door release doesn't work. Seems to need a new fuel pump (no problem, I'll have it changed out by next week). Is there any chance that one unit is causing my electrical gremlins? I read one post that mentioned a computer unit (PCM?) that was causing similar trickeries. Again, the tech didn't find anything in his scan. Any guesses? Thanks again! |

Wot year Rora ya got then mate
You could have up to four fuse boxes worth of fuses to check.

It's a 96, and didn't come with a manual. Where are other fuse boxes located? Sure would be nice to replace a fuse and fix some of these gremlins. |

OK starting from the top
The over full fluid could be a problem. I would sort that out first. Drain some out or suck some out to get the proper level. When your mech scanned did the scanner cover the tranny, some are only good for engines, if so then you may need to go to a good tranny shop and get it checked out. Driver seat movement, Power mirrors and maybe the Passenger seat warmer. If you open the front doors you can see a cover on the wires going from the door to the car body, move the cover and check the wires. Over time the wires are known to break with the movement of the door opening and closing. You will have to check closely as the break may not be obvious The fuel door release and above could also be a fuse problem. Apart from the fuse box you have already checked there are two more under the rear seat with the battery. Lift sharply from under the front leading edge of the seat to move it. The engine compartment relay center is located on the front right-hand side of the engine compartment. Although this is more of a relay box (as the name states) than a fuse box. The fuel pump is accessed from the trunk and you will need a special tool to remove/replace it. I suggest that you get a repair Manual before attempting this. For the manual try, http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/ca...tomer/home.php http://www.helminc.com http://www.ebay.com http://www.ebay.ca owners manual in pdf format. You will need Adobe reader installed on your computer for this. https://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2cont...1996aurora.pdf Ref:- the fuel pump replacement and special tool plus no OD check out the ongoing saga. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...80#post2758180 Sorry for missing the 96 bit in the thread heading but I have a terrible cold and I'm brain challenged at the moment. I hope this helps. isnibs

Overdrive
Hi you may need to have it checked with a scan tool. That should tell you if the trany is getting the signal to go into overdrive I would also check the brake light switch if it is malfunctioning it wont let the trany go into overdrive. Most of the time if you have a solenoid problem it will set a code and you should get a check engine light.

Re: 96 aurora, won't shift to OD, seat problems?? Thanks!
Thanks for the help. The mech came up with 34 codes from the tranny, and referred me to a tranny specialist. Anyone know what these codes mean? I have them, not sure if it will help to post them.
Also, the brake lights work, so this must not be the problem? Just got the car back, and haven't had a chance to check fuses further. It will go to the tranny guy on Fri, I'll try to check out the fuses tomorrow. The tranny specialist said it sounded like an electrical problem, maybe even a missing ground. Keeping my fingers crossed! Incidentally, the mech's engine scan said that the egr valve is sticking, and his notes showed a knock sensor that posted a light as well (he didn't mention it, so he must not have been overly concerned). Don't think fixing this will have any effect on the hard starting. thanks for the replies |

the tranny not shifting is od is the vehicle speed sensor, i had the same prob happen. its not that much for the sensor and for a tranny place to put on shouldn't cost very much either.
