This is a 1984 FireBird with NO T-Tops.
After every rain fall, I have to soak up the water out of my trunk ...about 1 - 1.5 cups of water. I am at my witts end trying to figure out where it is getting in ! I have replaced the hatchback trunk seal with a brand new one. I have gone as far as to put silicone all along where the hatch glass meets the "trunk lid" .....for lack of better term. I have even put silicone around the rear spoiler supports where they meet the "trunk lid". To no avail. The water seems to be somehow getting in behind the hatch seal .....when I pop the trunk after the rain I can see the seal is dry along the entire lenth except on the left & right corners (back of trunk--spoiler end). This was the same location as with the old seal, so I am fairly convinced the seal is not the problem ....the rain seems to be getting in from the trunk lid somewhere on the inside....thus the seal is actauly helping it find it's way down to the bottom of the trunk ......and the wheel wells also......both left & right......I have removed the "spare doghnut" so as to help in soaking up the water and possibly following it's path. Any ideas ...especialy if anyone has had a similar experience would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. TIA. Anthony |

Re: Rain Water getting into Trunk.....HeLp
seal between the metal the spoiler bolts too,and the glass on the back hatch.if you lift up on the back hatch with it locked down and get any movement up and down you may need to adjust the back latch.Mine did that too until i put an electric rear latch on it,wich sucks it down tight.

Only thing is, like I said ....I've already put silicone all along where the glass meets the metal .....it did seem to help because before I did that I used to get more than 1 - 1.5 cups of water. Now I'm considering separating the glass from the metal and having a look for visual clues .....the drag is that it looks like a pain in the butt job with little chance of finding where the water is entering .....since it has the silicone applied to the outside......but looks like I may have no choice. ....you had the same probem with water entering .....and it was resolved after installing the electric latch ? ....does the electric latch come standard on newer model FireBirds/TA's ? TIA. Anthony |

I pulled the electronic latch off of a 87' model trans am.
Your tail lights also go from inside to outside, and each has 6 screws and the screws have rubber seals. If one of those rubber seals fell off or somthing as a light bulb was being changed it could also be a place where water can enter. |
