Re: Best *cheap AWD* car?
idk with the stealth and the VR4 being almost the same car *body,no active aero or muffler* it would be cheaper to grab a stealth RT/TT and put a 99 vr4 front end on it plus it would look awesome. Also for 10k mostly u see 1st gen VR4s for 5-6k i could grab a 2gen Stealth 320hp so.

Re: Best *cheap AWD* car?
well then do that
and no worry about eh 1st gens power because with 5 minutes of your time(if that) you can put the 1st gen at 320hp. if your thinking more looks then do what you said and get the stealth TT

Im considering an AWD car aswell.
Between the A6 Quattro sedan and the A4 1.8T, is there any major differences? Is one cleary better than the other? There are plenty of both near me that are in my price range (<8k) near 100,000 miles, and 1995-1998. If anyone has any input on these cars i would be glad to hear about it, i dont know too much about them. |

This thread really grabbed my interest. I just had to throw in a suggestion or two. Just about every car that everyone has mentioned has merit, but if you are seriously considering a used Audi, there are more fun options out there. Out of the box, the 1.8T and 2.8 engines of the A4 were both kind of so-so in terms of performance. If you really want bang for the buck in an Audi, check out a 94 or 95 S6 quattro. These were among the last 5 cylinder Audis sold in the U.S. Audi offered both a sedan and avant version, and the car had something like 238hp with 250 pound ft. tq just above 2500 rpm. Magazines tested 0-60 for the sedan in the high 5 sec. range. My father has had one for quite a while now, and those 5 cylinder turbo motors are damn near bullet proof. 160k and counting. Pretty decent manual trans, and the car as a whole is a blast to drive. Dad says he has more fun in it than his 2001 530i. Car is pretty heavy, but it has an absolutely awsome stealth quality. I've piqued off a handful of mid 90's Mustang GTs in this car and the drivers don't know whether to crap or go blind. It's really addictive. I always make a point to take it for a spin when I visit my folks. As for the other cars, a Subie or Toyo would be economical as long as you didn't start dumping money for perf. mods into them. The 3000GtVR4 would be awesome, but with age general upkeep can get out of hand on those things. (I speak from experience- a couple of them have passed through our family and among relatives.) The Syclone would be absolutely, throw down, kick ass. Talk about another sleeper. As rare as they are, though, it would be a shame to rag it out as a daily driver. Just my thoughts...
