Alright guys i am just wandering what performance mods you have done to you Cars. Also is there any diferences in the cars between 2000 and 2005. i heard something about a smoother shifting after 2001. I am currently looking at an 02 GTS 6 speed in yellow with black leather interior. I am just looking for your reviews, pro's and cons etc.

Re: 2000 - 2005 GTS owners
a bunch of poeple say that the trany in the 02+ years was changed...personally i disagree, ive never felt ANY difference in the gts ive driven, i guess the "word on the street" is that the gear ratios were changed and different syncros were put in....i could be wrong tho its hard to tell the difference if a tranny has only had a slight change... i know my tranny now has 4.11 gears and the new lsd one im getting has 4.0...thats a big difference

Yes, there are differences. 2000-2001: are pretty much the same. 2002: Because of all the miss-shifts, the transmission was redesigned with wider shift gates. The ratios and everything stayed the same, the ONLY thing that changed in the tranny was the shift gates. Also in 2002, the rev limiter was lowered to 7800rpms instead of 8400rpms in the previous years. This was also done to prevent over-rev from mis-shifts. 2003-2004: In 2003, Toyota now uses DBW (drive by wire) in the celica. Instead of there being a throttle cable, the throttle is controlled electronically. The rev limiter is raised back to 8400rpms. The interior also has a minor upgrade. 2005: The 2005 Celica is back with the 7800rpm rev limiter. Everything else remains unchanged. Who would have thought Toyota would let the Celica go out like this?? Drive by wire AND the lower rev limiter.. thanks Toyota

Re: 2000 - 2005 GTS owners
Even in Canada did they not produce the solar Yellow color until the 2003 model. Does that extra 600 rpm's Make a big difference when racing? Have you had any problems with your car so far? I could have sworn i read something about you getting a new engine and a TRD short shifter but i could be wrong?

<~~~ (future Toyota Tech)
Well drive by wire is better than throttle cable...more precise and quicker pedal response. And the rev limiter is for customer protection...if they wanted to make it a fast car, they would have thrown their turbo in on of the models. But they left that up to the customer. |

Re: 2000 - 2005 GTS owners
Does venturing into those rpm's cause alot more engine wear? I would only be venturing into them every once in a while when i need to feel ther power

Yes, my engine is getting replaced right now. I had it rebuilt by Toyota after a miss-shift. And with Toyota Techs being the morons that they are, they made a mistake while rebuilding it causing my engine to fail.. so that's where my car is now.
