Cobalt influenced by toyota?...

I was looking at the Cobalt and wondering if GM had snuck in some styling from toyota. GM and Toyota have been comrades in the industry for a very long time. They even made the new united motor company. In the past GM had the prizm, chevyII/ nova, and now the vibe... (toyota matrix). The engine feels very similar to the 4age engine. Granted the 4age was a 1.6l engine they seem very similar. The 4age series had the super charged 4agze engine. Its funny to see people talk about boost on superchargers for if you try and add a bigger pully the engine creates more heat and you meet the threshold of loosing power.... but I degress. I wonder if toyota had helped them develope the engine for it. Chevy is not renound for 4 cylender engines. Every one pretty much knows them for thier v8s. The interior styling is similar to a scion's. The car most reminds me of a newer celica, sadly to say 05 is its last year after a 35 year run. The engines are not the same for the celica has a 1.8l engine. But they share similar styling. Chevy is being very secretive of the cobalt. I bet though its a step in the right direction for gm's sports compact division.

Expect to the cobalt in the next nfsu

Re: Cobalt influenced by toyota?...

well, im not sure about the engine, i was under the impression it was an in house project but dont know for sure.

in regard to the interior, i wouldnt give credit to toyota, certainly not scion. GM has finally accepted that its acchillies heel has been its cheap interiors for the past 20 years. The redesign of interiors accross the GM linup has been to target this major complaint. It showed up first in the Malibu, then the Colorado, and so on and so forth. as each model was redesigned or replaced, it was given an upgraded interior. I think it was more a sign of GM waking up than a co-effort with another brandname.

Also the 96-99 Z24 was sold in Japan as a Toyota Cavalier with 15" Sunfire rims!
Also GM has been looking to Japanese Marques for styling for years with the sedans! The last Malibu just looked like an import!!! Chevy Optra is a Daewoo Nubira with new badges!
