Newbi!!!! (im a girl! :/ Help)

AHhh help. I've asked my bf about my car, he has a 00 volvo and doesnt know jack about my mali. She's a 99 silver grey chevy. Miles on it is about 59 now. i've recently had my bf changed her oil, she runs perfectly with that and her new filter. Cooler is fine.. NOW... brakes on the other hand.. i've heard that if you take it to the dealer they'll scam you for your money.. is that true? and also i need new wheels.. i need a quote on it. She can't run any longer if i dont change her quickly.. Is there a good decent place where i can get my wheels done, and fix my brakes.. or actually which one is more important? brakes or wheels first? (wheels = about 400?) and (brakes = 400 - so they say.)... ahh help please. Thanks!

hey you can save yourself 400 , first of all im a malibu owner and i do my own work on my own car , i can do the brake job for 40 for labor only, parts only you will spend about 150 , wheels what kind of wheels you are looking for , well the only thing i can say shop around and make sure they give you everything bendix not no bullshit, well goodluck.

Assuming your talking about front brakes. I have 180,000 miles on my 2000 Malibu, and several sets of front brakes.
I always change the rotors and the pads, throw the rotors away there not worth trying to have them turned down to remove the warp.
I've tried the expensive rotors and the cheap ones, the expensive ones warp just like the cheap ones. I have had the best luck with the cheap ones from Murray's discount autoparts (lifetime warr. they gave me the last set).
The cost for pads and rotors is under 100 and can be done with a couple of basic tools and a hanes manual if you have never done it.
Or find someone who works for pizza and beer, it only takes me about 30-45 minutes to do it with all new parts.

Hey, do you guys know anywhere to get them? I live in seattle WA and gosh, they are hard to find. I know MIDAS wants to rip me off for sure.. 20 bucks to inspect it, then another 40 for labor of inspecting it.. and them maybe up to 400 for changing it and they wont use the parts that we bought. Sears, is about the same price but 300, the dealership.. estimated 600 because they said labor is verrrry hard!! bs!!! my dad spent over 1200 on my car fixing it! and they f*** up my spark plug to my ignition!!! and THEY AREN'T GOIGN TO FIX IT! BS !! >.< Anyway, if you guys know and trust a good company that would sell me brakes (pads) and rotars for a 99 chevy malibu not sure about the engine (16 gallon tank) PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! i would really appreciate it! thanks so much!!

There are lots of places to buy pads and rotors, I'm sure if you call a few auto parts places (large chains) you will find them at a good price.
You can check on line at http://www.murraysdiscount.com or autozone.com
these are two that I use. unsure of what shipping would cost you to the west coast
Ebay is another good source for these parts, the rotors at least.

Thanks! i will definately check those out. My bf was suggesting that the person up there whom i was communicating with about the parts, if he could sell it directly to me on ebay so then it goes good both ways.

it shows you the prices for every thing also if the pads on the inside of the are more worn out, you might be developing a leak in the master cylinder.
Yes, it can also be that your calipers are locking up but I had both calipers replace flex hoses included but still the uneven wear.anyways not trying to scare you just a heads up but changing the pads are not difficult to change. not even for a girl. Besides if you tried to do it yourself, your man will get irritated and do it himslf. well usually, hehe feel free to e-mail me.(it's in my profile)
