pcv valve?

I know this may seem like a dumb question but where is the pcv valve? I know its suppose to be in the valve cover but I didnt see it. In the passenger side cover there is a plastic tube that comes out and connects to the air intake. On the drivers side there is another small tube that connects to something underneath the air intake plenum but I didnt see the pcv valve anywhere. By the way I have a 1996 4 door blazer 4x4. Thanks for any help

Re: pcv valve?

this is a guess but you may have something in place of the PCV. If its not on the valve cover, then i dunno where it is. It should hook up to the throttle body. Hope this is helpful. You may have a crankcase breather valve.

Re: pcv valve?

Hey guys. I went to replace the PCV valves on our '95 and '97 Blazers today. The '95 was pretty easy and obvious, it looked a lot like the picture that BlazerLT provided here:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ight=pcv+valve

But, the '97 Blazer, that is another story! As far as I can tell, it has no PCV valve. In the similar spot as our '95 Blazer, there is a thick tube that runs into the engine. When I pull this tube out of the rubber housing in the engine, there is nothing there!

I ordered Hastings PCV valves. The one for the '97 model year looks different because it doesn't have an "L" shapped neck - it just points straight into the air. I can fit the Hastings metal end of the PCV valve into the rubber housing in the engine, but then I can't attach the tube to the PCV valve. Besides, the tube looks like it is just supposed to poke into the rubber housing on the engine… am I missing something here? Is this the "crancase breather" Rbraczyk mentioned?

Thanks in advance,

Re: pcv valve?

The PCV valve is in the driver's side valve cover on a 1996+ 4.3L.

Re: pcv valve?

You guys are tops. My problem was looking on the wrong side of the engine. As you all noted, I just went to the left side (aka "driver's side") and found the PCV valve. Real easy to change.

BTW - I can now hear the slight clicking hum that a working PCV valve generates which wolfox mentioned in another thread. I had not recognized this noise before.

Thanks a million!

Re: pcv valve?

Yea, I just changed mine too and man it makes a racket sometimes when I start the engine.

Rattling away until it warms up and seals properly and kills the blowby.

I'd always heard that a good way to test a PCV valve was to shake & see if it rattles, or to blow through it from the bottome to make sure it opens.

Is it supposed to let air in from the other end though?
I just bought a new PCV (made by Deutsch) and for giggles, I blew through it from both ends. From the bottom, it lets air right through like it's supposed to; from the top, the valve seems to close up, but I can still feel/hear a little air passing through.

Does this mean it's defective or is that normal for a cold valve?
