fuel efficiency

hello all, i have a bit of a question for those of you with the 289v8 and those of you with the 144 v6. right now i have a 64 falcon futura with a 289 w/ 4speed from a 65 mustang (previous owner's project). i am going to use this car as a daily driver (i drive an hour to and from work). my question is, what kind of gas mileage do you get from each engine? i am kind of leaning toward putting in the 144, but if the 289 gets okay mileage ill just rebuild it.

Re: fuel efficiency

Well I can't give concrete figures on gas mileage. A big part of it is just how you drive the car. My dad has a 79' ranchero and claims to get 20 mile to the gallon. Meanwhile the guy I bought my fairlane from claims that he only got 14-15 miles to the gallon. If you want my advice you should just use the 144, if you just have it sitting there why not. Still hold on to that 289.
If you ever get the chance you could use one of the newer Ford engines that are fuel injected which get even better gas mileage than thir older counterparts.
