AC Bypass

Hi,

I have a 96 Dodge Dakota and the AC copressor has gone out. I do not wish to replace this. Is there anyway I can use a different belt and bypass the compressor? Will I need to remove the compressor for this to work?

Thanks,

Re: AC Bypass

Personally I would leave it as is and just disconnect the electrics from the compressor, it puts very little (if any) resistance on the belt system when the compressor is off.

Re: AC Bypass

You didn't say how the compressor went. If the bearings in the idler pulley went you will have to bypass the belt. Good luck, you'll probably go through 3 or 8 belts before you get the right one. If the compressor locked up you might either unhook the electrics or empty the freon. If the freon is emptied the electrics won't activate anyway.

Thanks,

The correct belt to use is a 905K7. It took about 10 min and was easy.

Thanks for the help.
