revving motor Safari 1997

I have a friend who ownes a 1997 GMC Safari. The van's motor recently began to accelerate (rev) without added acceleration by pressing the gas peddal. When placed in park, the engine is still revving up. Any ideas what the problem would be?

You could try cleaning the mass airflow sensor by spraying it with non-residue electrical contact cleaner. Don't touch any of the parts inside the sensor with anything other than the spray and let it air dry
