Bad Sensors or Stupid Husband
Okay guys, I am a non mechanical female who is now desperate.
My husbands 1990 Ford f15o 4x4 with a 300-6 is driving us nuts. Truck is flooding. Codes showed egr, os2. Replace those ran codes again. Came up with same codes. Replaced computer. Same codes. Anyone have any ideas. My husband wants to just put a new engine in. Nothing WRONG with the engine. Help before I kill him or burn the truck.

Possible 02 senor missing!
One of my pals had a problem that sounds just like yours. He had a 97 Grand Am that he bought used. It ran great for a couple of months then started to burn rich and over time kept fooding the engine. T he computer kept trobleshooting the 02 senor. The dealership replaced it a few times and still the samething. replaced the computer twice. Still the samething Diagnosed each wire from the computer. Still the samething. What happen was during the ownership of the vehicle before it was bought, the catalytic converter (after the exhaust manifold before the muffler) was changed. But instead of putting a catalytic converter in that used 2 0xygen senors (one just before the cat and one just after,) they installed the cat that had the 1 oxygen senor before the cat. The Dealership corrected the problem and my pal been troble free for over a year now.
Just ask Ford if your vehicle requires 1 or 2 oxygen senors. Be sure to give them your VIN. Hope this info helps |

Re: Bad Sensors or Stupid Husband
Go out and get a Haynes manual for the pickups and Bronco and read. Make hubby read it too. <g> It will show you the procedure to read EEC-IV codes plus run the diagnostic self-tests. Note exactly what codes the system spews out, and any problems noted during the self-test.
There are several sensors that are used to control fuel mixture, the manifold air pressure(MAP), throttle position, and coolant temperature, plus feedback from the O2 sensor. If any of these are screwed up, it makes the computer think the engine is at a different operating point that it actually is. If the thing is just actually really flooding, with raw fuel, then, as was mentioned, the fuel pressure regulator could be bad, causing gross overpressure. Another possibility is a stuck open injector. The Haynes manual will go into the details of how to check all this crap. An automotive stethoscope can be used to listen for the tell-tale clicking sound injectors make. If you don't hear one clicking right, it may be stuck open. -Richard |
