check engine light, easy fix

Well, my check engine light came on intermittently the past week and I brought it to Autozone. They ran the OBDII scanner and came up with a bad TPS. So I replaced it and went ahead and removed and cleaned my IAC as well. Talk about a world of difference. Seems more responsive and might get better gas mileage as well. I would advise everyone to at least clean thier IAC just as a preventive measure.

Re: check engine light, easy fix

How much better gas mileage are you getting? My '98 ZJ Limited (5.2L V8) gets 12-15 mpg around town, and I'm interested in anything that will improve on that.

I like your mantra - "Your SUV isn't a Jeep.....".

Dave.

My 2001 GC 4.7L had a bad TPS come up with the check engine light this weekend, exchanged it and she's running smooth again.
The main symptom was constant revving even when the "beast" was put in park.

I know, and the bad gas mileage and the jolting when you put it in drive on top of that.

Exactly, I did get a hands-on look at the mechanic working and he showed me that my 2001 GC has alot of soot in the throttle body and that it is affecting the idle switch (the component below the TPS).
A good full tune-up will clean that gunk out and make idling a relaxing moment

Good luck and happy Jeep'ing

that idle switch is the IAC, idle air control valve. easy to clean yourself.
