noise from telescopic steering wheel 1999 740il

when turn the ignition on or off,the telescopic steering wheel

makes an anoing noise located somewere inside.

any ideas?thanks, romeo

I believe the 1999 models have the feature to automatically move the steering wheel out of the way when you turn off the ignition so maybe there's something wrong with the gears inside that do this. Do the tilt/telescope work OK when operated by the switch?
