2ooo sonoma 4x4

My 2000 sonoma will not go into 4 wheel drive high, it will only go into 4 wheel bdrive low when in neutral. does anyone have any ideas what the problem is

Remove the negative battery cable for 10 minutes and then reattach.

Should work from then on.
