I know it sounds silly but I want to remove my A/C unit. I don't use it and I just want to remove it completely. What specific steps should one take when deciding to remove the A/C unit? What potential problems could I be faced with?

K first off i would never get rid of my A/C but if u want to you could just get a dif belt an bypass it and just leave every thing where it is the A/C clutch might size up but u don't care kuz you are not using it anyway ! Or just go to a garage that does (RAD SHOP UASULY) A/C they will probly recover the system for free if you tell them what you r doing (free freon for them) as you can get a fine for upto $100000 for letting it go to the air letalon the global warming efect it causes then take it all away an just cap off any of the ports that you do not remove PS. you can send me all the leftover parts LOL I will pay the shipping hehe THIS WILL REALY HURT THE RESALE VALUE

Re: Air Conditioner Removal
Most Hot Rods do not have AC and if it did they removed it.
Most people remove it because its just 1 more thing that the engine has to turn over and it robs the engine of power. If thats the reason you want to remove it just remove the belt so the engine want turn it. Plus if you ever go to Trade it in or sell it you still have your AC. Hope this Helps... My 2 Cents. Rick

Re: Air Conditioner Removal
Getting the routing diagram for non-AC (IF one exists for your vehicle) will help, and you'll need a new belt. WhoamI is right about needing to watch the release of freon.
