crankshaft pulley hub

Trying not to duplicate a previous thread, I am trying to remove timing belt and waterpump from 1.8L. Have gotten as far as removing crankshaft pulley but cannot remove timing belt until removing crankshaft pulley hub. How is this removed? Is the center bolt suppose to unscrew, is it cross threaded, or do I need to reinstall crankshaft pulley in order to unscrew pulley itself or what? I have tried the wedge technique to keep my wheels from turning and used a pipe on my socket wrench for more leverage but don't want to do damage. Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Remove the starter and lock the flywheel ring gear with a screwdriver and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt

If it's a manual trans, put it in 5th gear and have an assistant step on the brake pedal. That will absolutely hold the engine so you can remove the bolt. If it's an automatic trans, that method doesn't work, unfortunately.

put a socket with a pull handle on the bolt. turn the handle clockwise and get it as close to something sturdy (subframe, lower a-arm, etc) as possible. Then turn the ignition switch to start for like a half second to "bump" the starter. The starter turning the engine will break the bolt loose on this engine easily. It may take a couple of tries if the socket falls off...

Thanks for your reccomendations. Even the strap wrench and chain wrenches didn't hold, so went with bumping the ignition. Hope this helps anyone in the future who is as hesitant as I was about using ignition to help get crankshaft pulley hub off. It works, and if done properly, damages nothing. Thank you again.

I'm more familiar with the 1.9L . When I removed mine I didn,t even think I just grabbed my 1\2" impact . Tapped the trigger a few times to see if it would turn counter- clockwise when it did I followed through with full removal. If you are familiar with the recommended torque spec you'll have a referance for a minimum removal torque . You will need to keep in mind things that you need to remove want to bond. I'm hard on tools but if you don't have a impact try hitting your wrench or ratchet handle with a decent blow from a hammer(soft face preferrably or dead blow)wear your safety glasses chrome chips from this method . good luck
