Arrow need some tips

Hello,
I am considering purchasing a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird. It is a two door, with a 4 cyl. engine (I don't know how many liters) The car is being sold to me for $75, because it needs the head gasket replaced, the dash lights don't work, and it needs very minor body work. Am I getting myself into something big here, or is it feasable. Have you done any of the above repairs, and can give me some tips??
Thanks

If I was you, I'd check out the car thoroughly first.

I paid $700 for my Sunbird, and have put over $1000 into it just to get it running smooth. And if you read my other thread, you'd see that my car is dead for now, too.

I'd check the front struts and the rear shocks... they are prone to be worn out. If everything looks in good condition... I'd buy it.

I have had nothing but problems with my Sunbird, but I think it was manufactured in the depths of Hell. I don't have experience with other Sunbirds so I can only talk from experience with mine...

Re: need some tips

If you are just looking for something cheap to drive around then I would say it is a good deal. If you are a decent do it yourselfer you can probably put in a head gasket yourself. As for the dash lights probably just a burnt out bulb.

I paid $500 for a 1986 chevy k10 4x4. With no speedometer, odometer, or fuel guage. And rusted out pretty bad but for my application it is perfect.(hunting/beater truck) I think it was a good deal cuase I have been offered $1000 for it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my Sunbird had only 1 dash light working too (the tach). I lived with it for a long time and then decided to do something about it.

I took apart the dash, removed the gauge cluster and replaced the bulbs... works like brand new now.

For $75.00 you can't go wrong considering the little bit of work involved. I have a 90 Sunbird GT with a 2.0 tbi that I bought for $900.00. The only problems I have are the interior/dome light does not work anymore, and no title. Well I bought it at a car lot, and they claim they are getting the title, and I'v had the car over a year now. Anyways the car runs great no problems whatsoever mechanically wise. The only thing I have ever done to it is put a tune up on it, and then drove it from St Louis to Atlanta, then to Wilmington N.C. No probs at all. Oh and I replaced the coil. I also had a 89 LE never gave me any probs other than again changing the coil. Until the timing belt broke, and I messed up the valves in it. So all in all, I give 2 thumbs and big toes up on the sunbirds.
Great car for me.
