94', can't get out of 4HI

I put the jimmy in 4HI for a diesel snowstorm, and now I can't get out of it. i push the button and go in reverse and its not doing anything. do i need to be in neutral or do anything specific that i'm completely missing? or if not what can i try to fix it? thanks
