Is It Worth Fixing????

I have a 98 jimmy 4.3 W

The problem is on start up there is a lingering cloud of smoke. It is starting to bother me and really piss anyone off who happens to be standing next to me at the time.

I figure it is the valve guides letting a little oil pass through when it is sitting. My question, is it pretty straight forward on these motors? Any idea on how long it takes? Any extra parts needed?

thanks

Its the valve guide seals. they are begining to let oil pass them down the guides and into the combustion chamber, and poof - the blue cloud of smoke when you first start it up. The kit from the dealers cost around $50.00, contains the valve seals and all the other parts needed. You can do it without taking the heads off the engine, you just need a compressor to keep the valves up, pull the springs and follow the instructions to change the seals. Every GM I have owned needed this done at some point.

Hold on there, before you diagnose something , you need to know everything.

Is it black, blue or white smoke?
