Water is Leaking In
HI I went on a vacation and left my 1994 jeep grand cherokee outside and lately it has really been storming here in the bay area and I noticed that there was a damp spot in my trunk space and I tore up the carpet today and noticed puddles underneath I dont' really know where the water could be coming from I do think it is leaking in through the rubber lining of the trunk but I am not sure...if anyone else has had this problem please let me know where it could be coming from? Thanks

The seal can leak as the vechile gets older. The only way I have been able to find water leaks is to get inside and have someone run a water hose or go through a car wash. Then you should be able to see where the water is comming from.

Re: Water is Leaking In
A high pressure self service car wash hose should help.
Could be coming through the defroster cables that run inside through the rear hatch. Check the roof rack- the screws that go into inserts in the roof are a potential area for leaks. Silicone around the outer edge of the insert (it just takes a very small amount). Silicone the screw threads. You have to completely remove the rack to do this. I agreee with Bob D, I found water coming in through the roof rack rear mounting holes on our 2000 model. I prefer butyl tape (windshield seal/tape) , I've found that silicone works loose enough to allow leaks to re-occur. Also, to better find your leak, look for it in the rain. Rain water is very soft and will get in where tap water (especially hard water like we have in NJ) may not leak in.
